RIP Chris Cornell, singer and songwriter par excellence. You wrote our lives.
Dre Mac is a 23 year old up and coming artist originally from Mississippi but now resides in the Greater Knoxville area. He is in the studios on Saturdays working on his brand new mixtape. His inspiration for his label comes from his hometown of Columbia, Ms. The first time Dre picked up a mic was in the fifth grade during a rap battle with a classmate. Using one of his step dad’s verses, Dre was crowned victor. Dre states that “People never make it out [of Columbia] because they always try to fit in by smoking and selling drugs saying school is for lames if you let the cool kids tell it but really it’s the other way around.” He got out by playing basketball and rapping. Dre Mac’s role model is his father who came into his life at the age of 23. He admires his father’s strength because of how much he’s been through and guided him on how to be a man. Dre says that every time he talks to someone he can change their whole mindset with just his words. But Dre says his biggest challenge is the battle within, finding himself.
Dre Mac’s inspiration for his lyrics comes from the struggle. Dre says “No matter how bad one’s life may seem, they always get lost in music. It enhances the imagination and numbs harsh realities.” Dre’s long term goals in life is to be the best to ever do it and get Mississippi known on the map and changing people’s mindset. He says he wants to free those who are still slaves in 2016. Musically, his goals for the next five to ten years, Dre Mac wants his name to be known globally. He wants to partake in Grammy Awards and SuperBowl performances. Dre would also love to be able to perform in countries around the world where the do not speak English but could still feel the music.
Dre Mac’s best advise to give to any new up and coming artists is to not read the comment section. He says “Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” How do you want to be remembered?
The new mixtape, recorded right here at SoKnox will be out soon. Keep up with Dre here.
Yet another month has gone by and of course that means one thing for live music lovers and streamers alike: Thirdsday. Only this time, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, our live event series was moved back a week for convenience’ sake.
This month took us on a whirlwind of sound from the dynamic and heartbreakingly raw melodies of acoustic guitar slinging redhead, better know as The New Apologetic, to the unabashedly loud and energetic rock-n-roll band that is Mass Driver. Guitar strings were broken, water was spilled on guitars and the night was truly one to remember.
7 pm rolled around and Ben (The New Apologetic) quietly made his way to the stage. The room filled with the sound of acoustic guitar ballads and crooning vocals. The room got quiet and all ears were eagerly listening to the undeniably soothing and honest songs that permeated the room. Ben successfully pulled on our heartstrings with tearjerking originals, such as “Trepidation” & “Insurance.”We highly recommend catching one of his live shows for yourself. Follow him for more information here: http://bit.ly/1M3lkQv.
Next on deck was Mass Driver. The trio of seasoned rock-n-roll musicians took to the stage like a rolling freight train. The songs were loud, fast and in your face, just like any good rock show. Aside from the songs that stood heartily on their own, the live performance was highly entertaining. All you need to know is… 4 broken guitar strings and a frontman who pours water on his guitar is a show you don’t want to miss! Follow them here to keep up to date with future shows: http://bit.ly/1M3mkEv
As always, thanks for hanging with us here at SoKnox Studios. See you next month.
SoKnox Studios held another lived-streamed event for the ages on February 18th of this year! This time we had the bands Pale Root and Arden, who both gave two tremendous performances. As always, the pizza was hot, the beer was ice cold, and the music was jammin’! Also, a big shout out to Joe Vangieri, DigiTrax Entertainment’s very own President and CEO, for helping us kick off this monthly event.
To start off the night, we listened to Pale Root as they brought in some chill vibes with a few cover songs and mostly original songs from their latest self titled album, Pale Root. Pale Root is a musical duo of two Knoxville natives, Aaron Freeman and Jordan Burris. Their music is a combination of folk, country, bluegrass, and modern folk Americana. You can check out Pale Root at their website paleroot.com!
Also check them out on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook: @PaleRoot
Next up for the night, we had the band Arden come in and they rocked the house! Arden is an alternative jazz rock band originally from Duncan, South Carolina. The band is made up of Alex Rickett, Zach Alling, and SoKnox Studio’s very own intern, Joshua Hoffman. This musical trio are all friends who met in high school and one day decided to mix all of their musical talents and start a band! Stay tuned for Arden’s upcoming album, Arden – Life In 3D. You can check out Arden at http://ardenmusicgroup.bandcamp.com/releases.

Home Sweet Home #SoKnoxStudios brought in the brilliant bands Freequency and Appalachian Surf Team. As always the music was jammin’, beers were cold and the crowd was rockin’. It’s great to get together in the studio with the local music crowd and support local artists.
What a great ease into the show with Freequency and their cozy living room feel. Playing some oldies and some originals for a great mix of sound. Love the change up of genres from country to pop to rock and even some soul. This triplet is so versatile! Playing some Fleetwood Mac is a sure fire way to get you grooving. Don’t forget to get yourself a copy of their cd at cdbaby.com/m/cd/frequency
Next up were the acoustic sounds of Appalachian Surf Team. Sean and Drew dominating the guitars to fill SoKnox Studios with fast tempos to get your heart racing. Surf rock might not be the relaxing type, but it sure gets you hyped to get on the beach and have a great time with friends. Sticking to the roots of surf rock with no lyrics the studio felt nostalgic. If you had plans after Thirdsday, Appalachian Surf Team definitely pumped you up.
Don’t worry, Doug we didn’t forget you! Always a pleasure having your let’s put it this way hysterically psycho sense of humor. Catch Doug on WDVX!
See you September 17, 2015 for our next trembling Thirdsday event!
All the kids are doing it. http://ow.ly/i/d4xMz
